Use Adguard Home with Fritzbox keeping *.fritz.box local hostname domains
(Last Updated On: )While you can just use AdguardHome as the ROUTER DNS resolver, doing this will lose some of the goodies from Adguard Like DNS query list, custom per-device resolvers and so. So let us just make it work transparently.
Configure Fritzbox:
The first thing we need to do is instruct our network clients to use adguard to resolve domains. Go to:
Home Network > Network > Network Settings > Additional Settings > IPv4 Configuration > Enable DHCP Server. Set the Local DNS Server to the IPv4 address of your Adguard installation.
Home Network > Network > Network Settings > Additional Settings > IPv6 Configuration > DNSv6 Server in the Home Network > set Local DNSv6 server to the IPv6 address of your Adguard installation
To find out the correct addresses go into your AdGuard Home interface and select the setup guide to the right. Do also make sure to activate the reverse resolving of client’s IP addresses in the AdGuard DNS configuration.
Configure AdGuards DNS config:
Upstream servers:
[/local/]192.168.178.1 (local IPv4 of your router)
[/fritz.box/]192.168.178.1Private DNS servers:
192.168.178.1
fd00::****:****:****:**** (local IPv6 of your router)In case of trouble wait for the router to clear its cache, make sure that you set custom names for all your devices in the network menu and perform an AdGuard reboot:
sudo ./AdGuardHome --service restartHope that helps. 🙂
